Friday, July 30, 2010 @ 6:09 PMSports day cancelled
Sports day was cancelled due to the rain.I have no idea what to think. Does this mean it will be replaced? Because I seriously hope so. And I think I'm kinda frightened now. Because I stand by my realization: Knowing people too well might not be a good thing. Anyway, here are the pictures for yesterday. ![]() Glitter Graphics ![]() Add Glitter to your Photos ![]() Glitter Graphics ![]() Glitter Graphics back to top? |

Saturday, July 24, 2010 @ 7:36 PMPrivate Peaceful
![]() It is told from the point of view of Tommy Peaceful, and is very cleverly written, as he is looking back from the trenches at his life before that point. Tommy does this in the space of one night. A paragraph at the start of each chapter is about the present (what he is doing now) and the rest is Tommy remembering. The reminiscence starts off with his first day at school. His older brother Charlie is leading him into the building. Charlie's character is very well portrayed as someone who isn't afraid of anything and as Tommy's role model. Both images starts to take shape when Charlie doesn't squeal when the teacher hits him. Tommy meets a girl called Molly in school who is very kind and whom Tommy fancies. She starts to become a regular guest at his house, getting to like Big Joe, Tommy's disabled brother, while his mam treats her like 'the daughter she never had.' As life goes on, it is Charlie and Molly who want to marry, even though Tommy really loves her. He starts to become very jealous, especially when Molly becomes pregnant. When the war starts, Tommy is afraid to join up at first, but finally does, along with Charlie, even though he is underage. They are sent off to France together with some old friends from home. There they encounter a horrible sergeant called 'Horrible' Hanley, who immediately has it in for Charlie and gives him a field punishment. But when Charlie refuses to go to battle because he wants to care for Tommy who is seriously ill, 'Horrible' Hanley gives Charlie the death penalty. This is the night that Tommy is remembering; the night before Charlie is due to die. The descriptions in this book are excellent, as they portray the horrors of war so well. Here is an example: 'by the time I get there Little Les is lying on his side shot through the head, his eyes staring at me. He looks so surprised'. It brings vivid pictures into your mind. I really liked how Charlie's role-model-like character is developed, how he is loyal and brave. Another thing is the song 'Oranges and Lemons.' It is almost their special song, as Big Joe always used to hum it and whenever they were worried they would sing it together and all of their fears would go away. This is the song that Charlie sings when he is about to be shot by the firing squad. It is an overall theme that runs through the book. Michael Morpurgo's books aren't really what I would usually pick up to read but now that I have read this novel (and also read Kensuke's Kingdom in school), I will definitely read more of his work. I really thought that this book was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good read and I will also advise anyone who wouldn't normally read anything by Michael Morpurgo to give it a shot. back to top? |

Sunday, July 18, 2010 @ 5:17 AMMe and my boring life
Today I spent a really sick day with my family. Woke up at 10 in the morning. Settled some school organizing stuff. Then went down for breakfast AT 11AM. Practiced some chinese oral. Got a call from Diyanah that English oral was TOMORROW!!! Started freaking out. Hahah. Oh wait. That was yesterday... Whatever. Then continued with my study-reading of The Last Song. At 3 the whole family went to see the doctor. We went to 313 at Somerset then. Packed dinner from Bishan and spent the evening at home. Now I'm replying all my facebook messages from the usual people. Derek and Nick and Isaac and Alicia and NiK. *SIGH* English oral tomorrow. Mom's birthday the next. back to top? |

Saturday, July 17, 2010 @ 8:37 PMSharon side?
Haven't posted in some time yeah?Anyways.... My english oral is tomorrow. And I can't believe I'm focusing on Chinese instead. Not that it's THAT far away. But I definitely have more rights to feel worried over Chinese rather than English. Because Yufang is right before me. That's depressing. And I admit that the only thing I feel insecure about English is because I'm worried that my OVER-CONFIDENCE will pull me down in the end. And this is Cedar. For Christ's sake. Not Anderson anymore. I can't get an A in English here. Much less a pass for Chinese. I'm kinda stuck now anyway. It's back on the Sharon side again I guess. Things between me and za-bo are still cold and unfamiliar. And things can't go back to normal anytime soon. Things are not so... natural as before. Not that I blame her. I mean, I can't believe I, ME, MYSELF lied to her. She has every reason to be angry at me. Not that she is anymore. I think. But I'm still avoiding as much contact with her as usual. Not because I don't want to. You get what I mean. back to top? |

Saturday, July 10, 2010 @ 3:47 AMONLY Gold with honours and first in division for NBC!!!
OMG! CEDAR SYMPHONIC BAND GOT GOLD WITH HONOURS! THE ONLY GOLD WITH HONOURS! AND WE ARE FIRST IN DIVISION! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? IT'S SO UNBELIEVABLE! I mean, it's like OUR band can? Not that our band is that bad. But it's just not that good. And I can't possibly imagine what we did to get FIRST! Cheerleading was a screw up for me. I know I'm not allowed to talk about it on the WORLD WIDE WEB(to quote Daphne)but here's a LITTLE bit about it. I didn't go for the audition at the last minute. Sadly. But they did well. It was great guys! back to top? |
